Serious question. I haven't played Pokemon Scarlet until last night. It's a very very very minor thing but why did they get rid of even an option to turn off EXP Share or at least during the battle not asking you if you wanna switch Pokemon.Ever single game in the franchise has those options.

how are you doing that? are you fighting every overworld pokemon you see on the map? if your mons are overleveled and you dont like it, catch other ones or stop battling every single thing on your screen

how about just give the player a choice so those who want to level slower can, and those who don't, don't have to? literally what is the harm in just giving a toggle? does it affect your experience? no. but it lets other people play how they want.

They didn't provide any justification. They just said that, if you're not happy and want to make things harder for yourself, just play with one Pokemon at a time instead, even if you could already do it.

Some people want to earn an evolution. Having a Pokemon doing nothing in your team gaining level and potentially evolve is not as rewarding as if you used it in battles, switching with your other Pokemons depending of your needs, making it part of your team for a while, to reach the required level. And it's not like programming an optional Exp Share will create more bugs and lags.

This has been the case since Let's Go.
The problem is that while most JRPGs are actually balanced around EXP being distributed to all party members and have carefully designed enemy levels Pokemon doesn't give a shit. Between the overly generous EXP yields and inability to turn it off, unless you're constantly keeping a tab on Bulbapedia/Serebii open to know what levels the upcoming gym leader is so you don't surpass them, just battling every trainer you come across or catching every new Pokemon that isn't in your dex is enough to become overlevelled.
