I hate Wind Waker as much as the next guy but that was Gen III. This is the Skyward Sword of Pokemon where there was no excuse for the games to be as bad as they are

SS needed the HD port to fix a lot of its issues, but the main reason people hated it was because it was a significant downgrade to the prior games which had been an issue with mainline Zelda for years continuously falling under more linear direction and offering underwhelming results after so many conflicting and contradictory direction changes. Skyward Sword is functionally solid but the most underwhelming game to date compared to what came directly before it. By technicality that's SwSh's issue, but SwSh takes it to an upmost extreme of being the most mediocre experience imaginable when they had absolutely no excuses for the game to be as bad or controversial as it was. There are similarities between these two, but one is more drastic

I didn't like TP either.
For many that was their first Zelda, I get it. Everything outside the dungeons was tedious and awful. The problem was that SS didn't fix all of that, the tedium was still there, but made more engaging.
LttP formula had definitely overstayed its welcome.
