Someone explain to me why GameFreak has to delete a gimmick every gen and come up with a new one?

Why can't they just ADD new features?

it's only happened in gen 8 and 9 even. It's probably because they realized mega evolution was TOO well received for them to be able to ignore without extra nonsense. I expect them to have all of them in gen 10 + champions, then skip all of them in gen 11 but keep them in champions, then bring them all back with certain limitations in gen 12+. Maybe limit to only 1 gimmick per team on top of only getting to use that gimmick once (so, you have to choose between dyna, tera, mega, and z.

During one of their interviews in SwSh, Masuda stated that they don't like to reuse a feature until they can give it a "surprising" new twist. His example was the Rotom Bike, meaning they only brought the bike back because they thought that it being able to go over water and boost made it a refreshing new feature and that the bike would not have been in the game had they not thought of that. It's also why regional forms keep having new shit slapped on (regional exclusives, convergents and paradoxes).
So essentially, yes, they're retarded and it is reasonable to fear they have some wack shit prepared for megas in ZA likely related to Zygarde.

Alola having both Megas and Z moves at the same time was pushing things.
Now imagine trying to juggle Megas, Z moves, Dynamax, and Tera for online play.
Opponent has a Scizor out, what are they gonna do?
Normally it’s only a few options. Use 1 or 2 different attacks they will realistically use, and Switch out.
Now add in Mega Evolving, using 2 realistic Z moves, using Dynamax + 3 realistic Max moves, using Tera and having multiple different types it can use, and just attacking regularly.

Non-Alolans should not be allowed to use Z-Moves. Non-Frenchies should not be allowed to Mega Evolve.

And from what I remember, Dynamaxing and Terastallizing have lore reasons why they are trapped within their own regions or whatever

Having all the gimmicks is one thing (which Champions will prove eventually) but making them all accessible in one game means having to come up with places to put all the trinkets and explaining what they're all doing in one region
