at the end of the day, kieran didn't get ogerpon because he was too busy seething at the player for beating him. there was absolutely nothing stopping him from going on the mission to get ogerpon's masks back, he just chose to sulk while carmine and the player got to have an actual bonding experience with her. she wasn't stolen away, she didn't think he was a loser, she just didn't know him at all because he actively avoided her at every opportunity.
