You could trade Pokemon holding the stones between games.
The only ones you couldn't trade between games were the ones that were introduced in ORAS because XY didn't have the items in their code (which led to the interesting case of being able to trade Latiosite/Latiasite to those games because they were in the code, just inaccessible through normal means).
We know for a fact Mega Stones are held items in this game due to the Ralts FOMO distribution so that would imply that they can be held and can likely be traded.
The only case where they couldn't be traded was Let's Go because that game didn't have held items to begin with.
