They are the better looking 3D games (I still prefer 2D but well), they are the only somewhat challenging games post gen 6 (not hard but fun - nuzlocke Alola is actually hard at some spots) and the setting felt more alive than any ither region since... I don't know, Kanto? I also think Lusamine and Necrozma are probably the better final bosses from all generations, honestly.
