>>58304724Because Emerald had the first battle frontier that was more than just "fight a bunch of battles in a row" and explored a lot of interesting, if sometimes less fun, gimmicks. People were excited to see how the improvements to breeding like having 6-perfect-IV dittos, destiny knot, everstones, more egg moves, resusable TMs, physical/special split, fairy typing, bottle caps, and other features would make the Emerald battle frontier more accessible while still being a unique challenge with "symbols" acting like a whole second set of badges. Then they got nothing but a copy-pasted version of the Battle Maison from a game they probably already owned.
