>>58306146>>still doesn't shove cutscenes and tutorials down your throatWhen I first played Ruby, the first thing I noticed is how much longer the story-dump on-rails section of the game felt.
In GS, the story dump ends after you deliver the Egg to Elm and get the dex. The game is free of cutscenes from that point (before 1st gym) to Azalea Town (start of 2nd gym).
But in RS, the story dump continues after you beat Brendan/May and get the dex, with the Wally catching tutorial in Petalburg, then the Magma/Aqua in the woods, then retrieving the stolen goods for the PokeNav after the beating the gym, and only then does the next stretch of the game continue without constant interruptions (start of 2nd gym).
Looking back, RS felt like the start of constant exposition in the series. GS were the only games that felt quick to get the intro part over with and start the unrestricted part of the game as soon as it can.
RB is also similar in structure to GS but the linear parts are simply longer compared to GS since Johto's routes and dungeons are physically smaller than RB Kanto.
