Some of the Pokemon who got babies deserved evolutions instead. Such as Chimecho, Sudowoodo, Raichu (though fortunately he did get 2 Megas now), Wigglytuff, Clefable (before the Fairy type), etc. No need to give babies to Pokemon who are already weak.
However ones like Munchlax, Elekid, Magby, Smoochum, Tyrogue, etc are pretty cool as their evolved forms are decently powerful (for in-game at least). Getting an Electabuzz very early in the game would be too overpowered but an Elekid isn't, allowing you to use that Pokemon earlier in the game.
The beta babies in specific though all seem pretty pointless, I agree with you. None of those Pokemon are strong enough to warrant baby forms.
The Tangela baby could actually kind of work as Tangela already has Tangrowth, so it could be like a Roselia thing where it got both a baby and an evolution. But that's it.
