it's a shame sakurai has never added more trainers to smash because it's a cool concept
here's some of the best ideas I've heard/thought of

i mean yeah makes sense he did it once and cut it out of the game. you have to make three separate characters in one, even worse if they aren't humanoid since you cant build off of an existing character and need more specialist animators and designers.

Would be nice if we actually saw trainers in smash, i don't see people point out that Pokemon in smash is utterly devoid of humans out side of Pokemon trainer. you get two trophies in melee and 3DS and nothing else, no spirits or background characters.
you have the Kalos league and the elite four's Pokemon but not the elite four themselves its so bizarre.

if eevee was to be in smash theyll probably base it off partner eevee and have all her eeveelutions appear in z move final smash

I always prefered single mons over the form-changing. Just have each and every mon have a trainer in the back.

Pokémon already makes up more than 1/9 of the roster and Poké Balls require a lot of work too, there doesn't need to be 12 more Pokémon. Just change the actual Pokémon Trainer to four different boys and four different girls.

We have like 80 different Kirby forms, 8 Heroes
Most of the Eeveelutions' movesets would be the same, maybe different special attacks/grabs etc. Jolteon not having a tail, Sylveon's ribbons would be obvious differences
Eevee is the secondary mascot of the franchise, better him than a current-gen starter

The ideal, in my opinion, would be to start the match as Eevee and be able to, after some time, do a permanent install that evolves you into an eeveelution of your choosing. Moveset would be mostly similar for each of the forms but there would at least be a few changed moves between each. Z-move could still be the final smash.

If their movesets are largely similar to each other and are therefore semi-clones, it'd really be like one-and-a-half character's worth of dev time, maybe two.
(IMO stealing slots from Fire Emblem/third-party slop is a good thing)

You can select up to any 3 pokemon from the roster (including Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard) and use them on one team. The trade off is that they lose their Down Special and take more damage from opponent's attacks.

Final Smash is the trainer trying to catch the opponent in a Pokeball but it always fails and explodes.

Knowing the roster right now, this doesn't seem that busted but it also seems like just a straight-up upgrade for most mons, right? But that is a really fun idea regardless. I like it a lot.

Probably because Sakurai gets that people don't play Pokémon for the humans, PT was a genuine stroke of genius in terms of design and translating home franchise mechanics to Smash, and I don't think we're gonna get another trainer for a long time.

I've had the idea of Nemona with Fuecoco, Quaxwell, and Meowscarada in mind for ages, and I think Arven could work well with Mabosstiff, Scovillain, and Garganacl.
