>>58329408Masuda looks at his game in terms of what they could be, and how he imagines them.
He makes a big deal about the XY friend characters, and how important they are to the theme of bonds and connections. The end theme to XY "KISEKI" is about those kids and their shared experience.
Problem is, none of that carried over to the final product. They're all annoying at best. But in his head, he envisions them as these fleshed out characters who go on a journey. He envisioned XY as Pokemon meets "Stand By Me", an idea alluded to all the way back in Red and Green.
Even after launch, he still made a big deal about that story, and how it embodies the core ideals of Pokemon. So much so, that Kiseki was the grand finale for his Symphonic Evolutions orchestra
The games ship broken or unfinished, but there's all this extra texture we never get to see. We saw some of in the leaks, we see some of it in the anime and Legends games, but Masuda and co are the only ones who get that full experience.
