>>58336643The way certain music were remixed (Goldenrod being the worst offender), the way the Pokemon sprites are more neutrally posed, lack of Game Corner outside Japan, the increased amount of cutscenes railroading you, mandatory Sprout Tower, mandatory box legends before Elite 4, all the little things that make the game drag longer than it should.
Part of why GSC are my favorites is because of how fast it is in terms of pacing and how much freedom it gives you which makes them a joy to replay over and over again, but they bogged most of it down in the remakes. And that's not even counting the inherent slowness of the Gen 4 engine even after it's updated for Platinum and HGSS.
Are they big deals? No, that's why I said they are minor details, just grating enough to fuck with what could have otherwise been the perfect games.
I do enjoy many new things HGSS added like walking mons and Cerulean City remix and Gym Leader rematches and I understand why everyone prefers the remakes, but the originals already have everything I want the way I like them to be, so there's no reason for me to play HGSS over GSC.
Also Sabrina's redesign was stupid, the new Ho-Oh and Lugia battle themes weren't that good (compared to all of GSC and RSE's battle themes) and their compositional style didn't fit with the rest of the game, and GSC's environment art style and palette has this rustic, lived-in feel that HGSS failed to capture with its proverbial softened edges and cleaner art style.
