>>58338266>Knows nothing about DigimonDigimon are made of data. The type of data they absorb as they grow and fight and how they are raised, treated, and trained influences their evolution. Unlike Pokemon, whose evolution is a straight line, Digimon evolution is a massive tree of branches that overlap and criss-cross; theoretically, a Digimon can become any other Digimon of a higher stage upon evolution with the right conditions.
For example, even just looking at evolutions that have appeared in various existing forms of Digimon media, Plotmon can become any of the following Digimon:
Airdramon
ANgewmon
BaoHackmon
Bitmon
BlackTailmon
Blimpmon
Centalmon
Darcmon
Dobermon
Dobermon (X-Antibody)
Drimogemon
Fairimon
Fangmon
FlareLizamon
Galgomon
Gaogamon
Garurumon
Garurumon (X-Antibody)
Geremon
Goatmon
Golemon
Greymon
Guardromon
GulusGammamon
Icemon
Igamon
Ikkakumon
Kabukimon
Kenkimon
Kuwagamon (X-Antibody)
Leomon
Leomon (X-Antibody)
Lynxmon
Maildramon
Meicoomon
Mikemon
Musayamon
Nefertimon
Nefertimon (X-Antibody)
Numemon
Opossummon
Pegasmon
Pidmon
Raremon
REppamon
Revolmon
Sangloupmon
Scumon
Shurimon
Seisamon
Scorcerimon
Starmon
Stingmon
Swanmon
Tailmon
Tailmon (X-ANtibody)
Togemon (X-Antibody)
Tortamon
Tuchidarumon
Unimon
V-Dramon
WezenGammamon
Witchmon
XV-Mon
Yukidarumon
And these are excluding warp evolution or slide evolution.
>IT MAKES NO SENSEIt makes perfect sense when you realize Digimon are not biological creatures and their evolution is the result of the factors I mentioned at the start of my post.
Unlike Pokemon, where your Pokemon has the potential to become one, maybe two different Pokemon upon evolving with the exception of eeveelutions, Digimon have near-infinite potential. And yes, aesthetically a thru-line is best it also means that you can get wild with Digimon evolutions
