There's more to a typing then how it is defensively. Plus they got a cover every type combo. Even if it sucks in general it might have an important niche, now or in the future. Hell, you just posted a good example. Shiftry is Grass/Dark, it's the only Pokemon that gets both Dark STAB and Chlorophyll. Niche pick for sun or monograss teams.

It's almost as if there needs to be a rebalancing for many Pokemon that need even for the Pokemon that the armchair developers over at Leddit claim to be unsalvageable (aka "I'm too lazy to suggest any meaningful changes").

Its typing doesn't hold it back. Blame it's movepool and stats if anything.

You see Lokix occasionally in OU and its typing/stats are shit

If it has a ton of weaknesses to common types, then defenses are just wasted.
Shiftry would be better off with more speed so that it can attack before it has a chance to be OHKO'd by a very common coverage move.

Why would you want defenses on something with a shit defensive typing? The only times it worked were for Tyranitar and Celebi, which were 600 BST back when that actually mattered. It’s better for a pokemon with a shit defensive typing to have offensive options, like Meowscarada. Or… Tyranitar and Celebi.

Shiftry only has 480 BST.
Bumping it up to 510 with a 110 speed wouldn't break the game, especially when its attacking stats are so low.
