>>58354639Weak and lazy take. We know from the beta what GF wanted SV to look like. We know they had a build for a 2021 Switch upgrade. They literally had to level areas and remove trees to get the game running on Switch 1. The Switch "family" isn't going anywhere, so they're going to continue improving, and unlike the 3DS development their ambitions won't hit a hard ceiling. We saw them outgrow the 3DS with SM, and we know from the leaks that game was supposed to be an open world island hopping adventure.
James Turner leaving GF had a noticeable impact on SV's aesthetic. Sword and Shield look like 3DS games, but they had a really strong visual identity. They really used light and colour well. SV feel really sterile in comparison, with most of the polish in the particle effects.
GF don't get enough credit for their willy wonka design philosophy. They'd rather ship a broken game that includes their wacky systems or setpieces, than cut those elements in service of draw distance or framerate. We saw that with Sun and Moon, where it paid off most of the time, and we saw it in SV where the whole package fell short.
ZA looks disappointing, but it's not the "next" game. It was made alongside SV. Just like how SV didn't incorporate systems from PLA, ZA isn't going to do enough to build on SV. But Gen 10 doesn't have to exclusively target Switch 1, and they're building on a decade of experience developing for Switch. Technically, Gen 10 is set up to be a big upgrade, especially if it's the rumoured island game. Water travel allows for more segmentation, and it's building on idea GF was developing since the early 2010s.
SV was also a significant upgrade from SwSh's storytelling. But I wouldn't expect you to read.
