'Memba when we had kaijumon out the ass, and "animal but (type)" was only a small handful of mons? I want the old design philosophy back, I'm tired of goofy, bland and/or thematically uninteresting mons being the norm.

Didn't Gen 1 have 3-4 Kaijumons total
Then Gen 2 has Tyranitar and maybe Lugia if you wanna be charitable
Depending on how you look at the box Legends I'd say the next gens mostly went with 1 Kaiju normal/pseudo and then the cover legend Kaijus till around SWSH where the cover legends became relatively more "mundane" from the usual.

Kaijumons are bland and thematically uninteresting. Pretty much all of the gen 1 ones are just blatant ripoffs, even if stuff like Tyranitar/Hydreigon/Volcarona actually did more with their influences later.

Broadly speaking a Kaijumon is any mon that would be thematically appropriate in tokusatsu franchises
I.E. Starmie, Gligar/Gliscor, Flygon, Drapion, Volcarona, Barbaracle, Vikavolt, Drednaw, Rabsca
A creative pokemon design reflects a creative concept, and so far fewer and fewer modern mons are fitting that bill

Nta but it's not exactly the pinnacle of creative design. I look at this and don't think, "wow, these new mons are interesting", I think "whose public services mascot is this?"
They could've done so much more with this thing, like given it the age old design philosophy of "spikes/ridges/nubs = good" and and it would have come out with more recognizability than this.
Good Pokémon have iconic silhouettes. If you blot it out, you don't even get orthworm. You get a turd
