Personally, my cutoff line is when A)the target is a much broader audience than what would naturally be interested in the topic and B)it's been done as inauthentically as possible to facilitate as much profit with minimal investment.

I'm terrible at explaining things, but I agree with having an onramp. My issue is when people remove so many aspects that it no longer resembles the original. Think of World War Z, the movie adaptation removed practically everything about the book, so anyone who looked into the book because of the movie would be met with something radically different. The MCU is also a very good example of this happening, even if some of the changes could be argued for the better.

yeah we can both agree with that i think the MCU is an interesting case where you can have a Thing lite where you cut out some of the stuff that made the niche interest so niche but also have the original thing still going so the normies can have their more watered down story and the original keeps going for the diehard fans at least that was how it worked when movies and comics where good

Yeah, the MCU is a weird caveat to what I was trying to convey. It had appeal for both comic goers and people who had never heard of the comics-but also at the same time struggled to properly onramp people for what the comics were doing.
I'm not against the MCU by any means(hence why I said the changes were arguably good,) but in the most strict sense of what I was saying, yeah it's not a great entry point for the comics.
