I think that from everything I've seen from the anime, it has the strongest side characters to work with the main cast.
Doesn't really fix all the other issues it has, but it's something enjoyable about it.

You are not wrong, but the Japanese complained about TR not feeling like TR. Then the disaster struck and a plotline got scrapped then repurposed, then the marketing team liked to shill all the NFE pokemon and finally the writing team went full retard on the league because they didn't want to use reserves despite the full league of NFE pokemon.

Even ignoring the west disliking Iris and oldfags not liking Cylan it was a cursed production mostly from the japanese side.

Le funny face isn't that clever I think people shat on that since AG's overuse of overly exaggerated faces (the infamous big mouthed TR scene). The worst part of that it reduces the characters to having the same personality just for a gag, and TR not appearing every episode has been common since BW. World building emphasis has been common since DP, and XY dedicated entire specials setting up Mega Evolutions, Team Flare, and Zygarde. Hell even after the main story ended there's a special dedicated to Yveltal generally being a dick to ancient people.

Ash got reset and was a newbie again, first episode has Pikachu jobbing against Snivy.
His team was full of uncharismatic pokemon and probably the weakest he ever had.
He loses in the league against an actual retard who thought the Unova league was in Hoenn and only brought 5 mons in a 6v6 . Said retard then lose to a full eeveelution team.
