It's unironically never happening. Because of the Mega Flygon story from Nintendo Dream, countless JP fans were inspired to make their own Mega Flygon concepts, so now all the good ideas were stolen by fans, so GameFreak can't design a satisfying Mega Flygon of their own that doesn't fly too close to one of those fan designs, once again resulting in the artist block problem that will scrap Flygon from the equation entirely.

Palafin isn't a JP fan design, that's the thing that sets it apart. GameFreak and TPC only really care about looking at JP designs, which is also how you have that guy pointing out how Scovillain is similar to his own two-headed red'n'green pepper monster.

That's like asking for a hypothetical Mega Lurantis to be bug type because its whole thing is that it looks like a bug when it isn't. Even outside of competitive viability (do people even use it in competitive play anyway?) bug/dragon is overall a worse type combination for Flygon.

Let something else have that typing.

Trapinch was never part bug, either. I used Lurantis in my example because it has possible inspirations from the orchid mantis (and flower) and yet you don't see anyone saying that it should be a bug type. ...yet. Trapinch and its evolutionary line have design inspirations from antlions (and possibly a few other things) yet people want its type to change. How is this not a sufficient equivalent?

going by their current design philosophy it'll be more like flygon with a wierd horn on it's head and upwards curved wings that when placed together form a bottom jaw, and then another big jaw thing on it's tail that it puts on top scopion style to form a giant trapinch head while it walks on all 4s.
