The X megas are the megas that already exist dude. It makes more sense to slap an X on them, than change them to Y and add a separate X. Remember, these were the initial concepts they came up with when they even thought of Mega Evolution as an effect.

Iirc this also goes back to design process as well, with Zard Y and Mewtwo Y being the original mega concepts with the X forms being alternative more experimental takes they wanted to implement

Giving Tatsugiri a Mega is fucking insane, unless just equipping the Mega Stone prevents it from ever interacting with Dondozo during a battle. The last thing anyone needed was Tatsugiri being able to give itself a second wind after you manage to KO the Dondozo.

I really hope they don't pull a Pyroar and give both Meowstic the same Mega. The Meowstic have completely different movepool and abilities. Male is a supporter, female is an attacker

Are they trying to give Megas to every champion? Because now both Hau (he also has alolan raichu, not 100% sure if it can mega evolve) and Geeta will have one.
Alder is the only one who still won't have one. Kukui too but I don't think he is an actual champion.

The list leaked by the chinks that just got proven true listed three Tatsugiri megas with one stone and two Magearna megas with one stone, but only listed one Meowstic mega, so you already know the answer.
If you aren't considered a different species (see Latias and Latios) your megas will be the same one, no matter how different the sexes are

Their battles in both games serve the purpose as the battle against the champion from the old games (as always, the 5th battle) but canonically you become the champion after beating the Elite 4 and then they proceed to challenge you for your seat.

The only pattern I'm noticing among the Mega selection is that a lot of them are going towards guys who look cool or strong, but aren't really that good. (referring to Talonflame, Golurk, Crabominable, Golisopod, Scovillain, Baxcalibur).

I am really happy that the Gen 3 starters are coming back.
But other than that, it kinda feels underwhelming. There are some really cool stuff but also a lot of random shit (squawkabilly, really???)
I don't understand why they brought back all those gen 5 legendaries. They don't even get anything meanwhile the others already had a mega/primals (Gen 3 legendaries) and most of the rest will get something (Heatran, Darkrai, Magearna, Zeraora). Marshadow probably exists so players can get it without events.

They revealed Mewtwo for the movie and much later the Kanto megas, THEN the anime special revealed the alternate mega form for Charizard, and so they revealed Mewtwo alternate mega too.

Absol feels like they want to complete the yinyang theme and garchomp feels like they dislike the meme that its worse than original mega

Given the DLC name and one screenshot we have from it indicating some travel to a different place, it's not entirely unrealistic they add a similar arch and HP loss requirement to evo it in Mega Dimensions.

I think most of those mythicals are included to be "HOME transfer bonuses", with the exception of Darkrai and Zeraora who get a Mega and will probably be obtainable within the game by some means. Melmetal and the second form of Gimmighoul both encourage interaction with Pokemon GO. There also seems to be a focus on mons with regional forms and evolutions, again this is probably so there can be a HOME transfer bonus aspect to them, eg. one of those Meowths will be in the game naturally while the other two Meowths are obtainable via HOME.

No, they're the final test before claiming the Champion title. His words in USM even confirm that was his role in SM (*where he says he doesn't really want to be Champion, but wants to fight the player as a final challenge). He only starts calling the player "Champ" after being defeated also, indicating just beating the E4 wasn't enough to claim the title - the player had to defeat ALL challengers to their claim (and because there was no incumbent Champion, the organiser of the League and strongest challenger of the League respectively fulfilled that role).

Looking at the regular Pokemon who got in who are not getting Megas and who are not attached to some gimmick like a regional form, it seems to be a lot of unpopular guys you don't see very often. Swalot, Grumpig, Musharna, Sawk & Throh, Thievul, the parrots, etc. They're effectively DEI Pokemon lmao. The SV focus is also probably just because its the most recent game and should have a decent amount of HOME transfers available.

Meme picks like Chimecho and Scovillian are fun. Yes, they definitely should've gotten an evo first but GF has never been predictable in this regard. Im sure people could've guessed the Lucario would get another mega but Absol and Chomp were out of nowhere even if they were popular. I think it adds some spice.

Something I've noticed that they tend to design new pokemon for story or npc purposes. Like maybe they made some bell obsessed trainer in the DLC and therefore Chimecho gets a mega.

The Lati@s get different megas because they are different species, Pyroar and Meowstic are gender differences so the mega is the same. Meowstic's gender difference is more elaborated, sure, but they are still the same pokemon in the dex so they transform in the same.

Nah new garchomp is for her (assuming they actually give characters megas in another future appearance. Glimmora is for Geeta for ex). Y forms are more slender and on the "feminine" side. X form is more "masculine", gruff and rough. It's very evident from Zard, Mewtwo and even the new Raichu's. So Mega Garchomp's original design never fit her in the first place.

Lucario on the other hand works really well as a gender neutral mega. That one is probably for Korrina or another trainer since there is so many lucario trainers in the series. Riley or something idk

The mega garchomp also completely disregards the gender difference with the dorsal fin giving the female the male design. Males have the cut on the fin because they are explicitly more rash and get into fights more often than females

Where does that even matter exactly? No battles in the main story go on long enough for Moody to do much besides be really annoying when you get Speed or Atk/SpAtk drops, and for Competitive it's banned in Smogon and is a meme in VGC (post-nerf especially)

Burmy gets different forms because there's a couple moth larvae do what it does (builds a outer casing of bits of crap it finds lying around its habitat) and of the two, one specifically displays extreme sexual dimorphism, with males metamorphosing into moths and females staying in their more immature forms. Venusaur displays dimorphism between males and females, like Pyroar does (to a lesser extent, true) and doesn't bother distinguishing gender under ME. There's no reason for Pyroar to do so.

This is probably THE most hilariously petty thing GG has ever done. The rustling of Flygonfags was so monumental and top tier that I was able to look past the lack of a battle frontier.
