Megas back then had a “this but bigger” look to them where as the ones in ZA look more like evolutions

when XY came out game freak were spooked about the godawful reaction to BW's designs and lost faith in their ability to take risks with designs
they're a lot more confident to play with peoples expectations now than they were then

There's not one single design philosophy, lots of them are "exaggerated feature" some are palette swaps, others look more like evolutions.

While there's no realistic scenario where mega chandelure would have been anything other than a fancier chandelier, if we're purely going by XY design logic, it would have been a buff, thicker chandelier. Maybe with exploding flames.

Feels like there would have been a lot of ways to do the concept that would have works better. Like just giving him a red toothy helmet and have him on all fours with the spike arms so they naturally look like lower teeth because of there position rather than him needing to swing them out like Luffy.
