Unironically. This works for the normie nostalgiafag whose old save files of games they will never play again are of genuine sentimental value.
And because they change transfer services every so often, they cut old games off from transferring forwards, so you ALSO need to buy a new game, or else Charizard will get stuck because there's no more service to get him off gen 5 or whatever

I always just started fresh when I played/replayed. seems like caring about this shit would be a huge burden. already got used to losing my save files starting with gen 1 when I was 6 because my save randomly deleted back then and I didn't know I could just reset the game and it would (maybe) bring it back. actually I'm pretty sure I even restarted the game before that even happened to try other starters. then there was gen 2 where I played it so much that I guess my battery ran dry before gen 3 was even out. so I will never ever give a fuck about home or keeping my pokemon "forever" because I already lost my first ones anyway. feel bad for the kids who care about this shit and are being exploited for money and forced to pay a sub for life just to store their pokemon and they don't even keep the same moves so it's not even actually your original pokemon.

Jokes on them, my friend group all agreed we were done with this shit during USUM. Now all our childhood mons from RSE and up all chill on our USUM carts and nobody can stop us from getting together to battle on the couch whenever we want forever, and GameFreak will never get a dime or do anything about it

You also shouldn't transfer Pokemon to ZA anyway because it changes their immutable stats and makes them incompatible with all the other games compatible with Home. Once they go to ZA they can never go back again.
