They had to completely hold back because of the Nintendo Switch 2 delay, as Nintendo specifically wanted LZA to be an early gangbuster to stand alongside Mario Kart and Donkey Kong, as well as enticing Switch owners to upgrade to Switch 2, both in system and game version.
They COULDN'T have used that "extra year" to polish up LZA because the dev teams had already dispersed to other projects, such as LZA DLC (especially important because if the DLC suddenly looked worse than the main game, that would be a problem for quality consistency), Champions, Winds & Waves, Winds & Waves DLC, and Legends: Galar, because the franchise must ALWAYS MOVE FORWARD, NEVER LINGER.
