It is, and I very rarely use this term, soulless.
The charm of Pokemon remakes was typically that they brought the old games up to the series modern standards which meant mechanical differences and reinterpretations.
BDSP is an extremely straight remake with effectively no reinterpretation, and the few new things introduces are either passive parts of the battle system (attacks and abilities that have been added since the original games) or straight up negative (forced EXP share is especially egregious here because they didn't balance for it, making FORCEFULLY even easier than the original games). It adds nothing new, in the literal content sense, and nothing new in terms of reinterpretation.
Did I enjoy it? Yeah I've played it for 100+ hours and had fun. They made a functional remake of the original. But there's no flavour, there's nothing it offers over the original. In fact I'd even go so far as to say it's slightly inferior to the original.
Is it that bad? No, it's almost as good as the originals, which were pretty good. But it offers little to nothing new and simply shows the original through a kinda bad lens.
