>>58460311You're completely missing the point, again, that something having elements inspired by another thing isn't the same as the reference actually being part of the design, lore or even the concept.
For example, Salamence's color scheme and wings are clearly inspired by Devilman, but being a Devilman reference isn't actually an aspect of its design, lore or concept at all, GF just thought they'd be cool features on their flying dragon design, and so Mega Salamence does not literally turn it into a walking Devilman joke and instead focuses on some actual lore behind the line, the dream of flight, and taking that to the extreme (even dropping the Devilman wing shape in the process)
although it's still a shitty looking design in its own right..
The same thing applies here. Staryu and Starmie have a glowing core like Ultraman and some movements when animated that take some inspiration from rubber suit aliens, but specifically being an Ultraman reference isn't actually an aspect of their design, lore or concept at all, GF just thought those would be cool features on their alien starfish designs. Mega Starmie then proceeds to ignore all of the actual design, lore and concepts (such as the glowing core that's the focal point of both the visual design and practically all of Staryu and Starmie's Pokedex entries, and was ironically the element that took inspiration from Ultraman in the first place) to literally turn it into a walking Ultraman joke.
