Can Digimon fans tell me anything about the actual storyline, or characters in the new digimon game? Or do you only bring it up in comparison to Pokemon? Is there nothing that stands out about it outside of "its not Pokemon" and "muh graphics"?

People always bring Pokemon up when they discuss monster catching games because it's so huge that it's unignorable, so people inevitably compare. It's like trying to "ummm ackshually do you even like x series" whenever people compare a platformer to Mario. Or say people comparing an FPS to Call of Duty.

As a Digimon fan I find the new game a disappointment. It's all nostalgia pandering and barely any new cool mons, only DLC can save it as long as it isn't from the leaked list.

As an actual Digimon fan, the story in TS is a mess and is obviously what got screwed over the hardest by the game's development issues. Feels like we got the Cliff Notes of the plot without any of the details in between to make it make sense or develop the characters. If you pay any attention at all, you can just feel how much they had to cut and hastily rewrite on the fly just to finally get the game shipped.
It's a very good game and certainly better than GF's slop (like most games in existence are) but the people acting like it's perfection and God's gift to the medium are scorned spiteful Pokemon fans who were barely aware of Digimon six months ago.

Digimon simply has a well-known rivalry with Pokémon that dates back to the 90’s. Other monster collectors simply don’t have that.

is because this is a Pokémon board. Obviously every thread has to pertain to Pokémon to some extent. If you look at other boards or non Pokémon-related sites, you will see Digimon is discussed normally.
