I like her arena and music a lot.
But other than mega-gardevoir and Aurorus, her team is kind of a mess and lacks identity.
Hawlucha and Tyrantrum feel very out of place.
Goodra feels like a pokemon she probably wouldn't use and its just there because le champions needs le pseudo legendary dragon
Gourgeist I can kind of see, but its not really something that should be on a champion's team

Yeah literally any color besides the dull gray-brown they gave her. I've seen art with her in dresses and with jewels in her hair, and it makes her look great. I think her wearing shorts and what looks like a suit jacket just made her look kinda like a butch old lady.

the problem is that kalos despite being the supposed beauty-themed region doesn't have a lot in the way of beauty-themed mons, and a lot of the ones that do exist are either shitmons or have type overlap because the amount of new pokemon is significantly lower
and making diantha a psychic or fairy-themed champion would have come at the expense of stepping on the toes of gym leaders. technically wallace and alder got away with it but they were also from a third version and an optional postgame fight respectively

Sure, Cynthia set the bar pretty high, but let's be honest, GF plain and simply someway somehow forgot how to make Champions after her for some reason. Not everything has to be Cynthia-tier, but everything since her has been below-average at best.
There's a bigger far fundamental issue happening beyond Cynthia setting the bar too high.

Iris had external problems Game Freak couldn't really fix due to the anime irreparably damaging her image. She has a great team, theme, design and aesthetic but came from games that not many people played and were following up BW's heckin epic subversion of expectations

That being said if Iris was the XY Champion instead of Dianthack, people would've actually called her a glow up. It's the same time frame, if she "left" Unova to train in a new region and B2W2 set that up then you find out she was the CHAMPION of said region instead of being a nepobaby hire because Alder got too old and the protags of the last game disappeared then people would've probably actually been won over by Iris
