To me it felt like a surface level facsimile of what exploring wilderness, caves, and ancient ruins should feel like, just like how I view PLZA as a surface level facsimile of what the sense of urban exploration should feel like. For something as iconic as Mt. Cornet is to Sinnoh as a region, the form of Mt. Cornet players got in PLA is almost an insult compared to the absolute labyrinth of a cave system Mt. Cornet existed as within gen 4. For comparison, PLZA similarly fails to fully realize and express what urban exploration, and just how interesting and dense a massive megalopolis like Paris actually is.
There's another thread going on right now speculating about the PLZA DLC, with some people expressing hopeful wishes that maybe the DLC could let them explore some of the areas immediately surrounding Lumiose. To me, I don't think wishes like that are coming just from the fact that PLZA exists within just 1 city, it's that the 1 city it exists within fells more shallow and lifeless than any actual city that exists within our reality, just like how the ruins, caves, and forests of PLA feel more lifeless than any actual ruins, caves, and forests that exist in the real world.
