"It is said that one only gains their Mega Ring after defeating the successor to Mega Evolution in a Pokémon battle atop the Tower of Mastery."

It says this on the Tower of Mastery paintings in the Museum in Legends ZA. Yet in ZA we are literally just given megas without any fanfare? They literally sell mega stones in stores in Kalos 5 years after X and Y. So why does it still say this in the Lumiose Museum in ZA? Whats even the point of Korrina and the Tower of Mastery anymore? What do you think?

I think Ohmori kinda fucked the lore up by adding megas into ORAS, and then saying that megas were actually in Hoenn first. Which had 2 negative impacts:
1. It kinda put Kalos in a weird position lore wise since megas are kinda its thing, so Hoenn having randos using it long before them makes no sense
2. It means that non mega Hoenn is unlikely to ever return since its part of the main canon

It also raises questions about why the rest of Poke Japan has 0 idea about megas despite knowing a lot about Hoenn. In short ORAS lore is ass

My headcanon is that Zygarde chose us and AZ recognised that and just fasttracked the process. But idk why randos like Corbeau and Lebanne would have it though

I can see it with the orbs being mega stones (which we know), but it being lost to knowledge in Japan. You can argue things like the Dragon Tribe being the only people who still know about it, while the Stone Corporation and Wallace are trying to do their own research on it (similar to what Dexio and Sena are researching).

AZ said he shared his knowledge of mega evolution and mega rings with Quasartico. He was also in contact with Korrina and was gifted her Lucario. They knew what was about to happen in Lumiose with Ange going out of control and releasing mega energy everywhere so they fast-tracked people being able to get Key Stones and Mega Stones and master mega evolution through the Z-A Royale to stop the upcoming crisis.

I expect Korrina to show up in the DLC and have a battle with you to officially recognize you as a successor.

Nta but absolutely agree. At bare minimum Korrina needs to show up at least. Because that painting in the Museum says that the tradition of battling atop the Tower of Mastery is still in place

GF realized after Gen 6 that having a battle gimmick be exclusive to a few characters lore wise was a mistake. One of the biggest complaints about XY is that almost nobody in-game used megas against the player, even well-seasoned trainers like the E4 who by all means should be able to clear the tower of mastery much easier than you have.

Mega Evolution is just silly and all the rules are pointless because they will break them whenever it's convenient to do so. They've could've just made the stones extremely rare but for gameplay reasons it's easier to just sell them in a couple shops. Mega Evolution is just as shallow as Legends Z-A, which is extremely shallow btw.

Don't forget how mega stones themselves were cumbersome to get and would only appear for one hour of real time every day because the sundial in Anistar had to be hit by sunlight a certain way to make the stones shine enough to be visible. I don't mind those limitations being removed and ZA has a story justification for so many people getting to use mega evolution, though I agree that the ORAS lore was clunky.

I stand by the idea that Megas were a literal last minute addition to XY because the development was just falling apart. I dont think megas were even revealed until like, two months before release, and they were almost exclusively on the popular pokemon, with medicham and manectric being the only "unpopular" mons getting megas. then you had the factor of not a single Gen 6 pokemon getting a mega until oras, and it's fucking audino and diance.

AZ is the one distributing Key Stones this time around, and he's got a Lucario from Gurkinn so they're clearly in league. From AZ the Key Stones then go to Quasartico, who awards them to promising trainers in the Z-A Royale. This is all at AZ's request, because he's trying to find a trainer worthy of Mega Evolving Zygarde to shut down Ange and protect the city.

It's an exceptional set of circumstances and expediting the succession process is necessary if they want to save the city. The Tower of Mastery is the typical way to earn one, the Z-A Royale is another.

Mega Stones were already sold at that same store in XY dumbfuck, and they explain in the game AZ learned how to make mega rings and mass distributed them because they needed to rush to stop Ange. Stop speedreading.

But it wasn't. XY makes it clear through multiple lines of dialogue that Mega evolution only occurs in Kalos and the game explains why in very clear detail. Also one of the first things you are told in the game is that Fairy is a newly discovered type but ORAS, a prequel to XY, has Fairy as a long-established type. Also XY very clearly takes place in the same universe as the other games so the weird dimensional split thing was really stupid.

I'm sorry I just can't take the story seriously. They can't consistently keep to their own lore and drag in monumentally stupid things like "Ange", where even if it's 100% explained and makes sense, is still stupid. I'm sorry, the Eiffel Tower becoming evil is stupid. I'm sure there's some random npc in some district with one line of dialogue that debunks all the hate though.
