Gholdengos ability is not broken. Its just a much weaker version of magic bounce which bounces status moves back as well as stops entry hazards unlike good as gold.

What makes Gholdengo controversial is that GoG blocks Defog. Combined with its typing, it blocks all hazard removal besides Mold Breaker/Nuetralizing Gas Defog and Scrappy Rapid Spin.

Magic bounce is broken too thats why its only given to a very tiny amount of pokemon who are all OU or Mega Pokemon.

nta but it's effectively a WORSE Magic Bounce in every way that matters sans completely nullifying Defog rather than just deflecting the Evasion drop, which is the single thing that marks the ability as outright better in the context of Gen 9 OU.

That's the real issue with hazards IMO. Even their "counterplay" gives the user free turns

Magic Bounce is objectively better in every way except one, which is that Magic Bounce can't block Defog. But that one way is enough.
That, combined with Gholdengo being a Ghost-type that can block Rapid Spin, is what makes it busted.
But yeah, you couldn't just slap the ability on any mon and expect it to warp the game the same way Ghold does.

Gholdengo is an extremely good sheath for your knife. One that keeps it from ever rusting or going dull indefinitely. And also somehow stops you from ever dropping your knife.

Depends on whether you consider hazards to be knives or horrible bioweapons.
Gholdengo really just enhances hazards, so it would fall in the same category.

I assumed, before getting back into the series proper, that it was an ability that made all moves that would or could drop stats fail. That would have been more interesting and fun imo.
