>>58530737>For pokemon standards, sm does at least have a plot but the problem is that it's just so uninteresting and bland.> Game Freak wants to design their games around a story without the writing skills to do soExactly. If you're not strong at writing stories, the best thing you can do is actually have a very sparse narrative. Pokemon was at its best when it had a barebones story and a focus on worldbuilding over narrative. Gamefreak seems to have this idea that to tell a good story, they need to tell a LOT of story, but that's not how it works. If the writing is poor quality, then having MORE writing just makes it even worse because you're constantly being exposed to it. I would rather Pokemon have little to no story, than a big story told poorly. Gamefreak needs to realize that storytelling is not their forte, and that's okay. People fell in love with the franchise when it barely had a story, because of its monsters, the world that they created, and because kids could self insert and feel like they were on an adventure, and that was enough for it to become a phenomenon. Red/Green/Blue have the least story content of any Pokemon game, and are still the highest selling and most iconic games in the franchise and they've been riding that wave of success for 30 years. It doesn't matter that other JRPGs are story heavy - Pokemon doesn't need to be other JRPGs. It just needs to be Pokemon.
