>>58540172Tbh admittedly I think that if it had increased move speed that would have been interesting. Although the move speed mechanic in general I find extremely frustrating
Making positioning matter I think is actually very interesting but the fact that you're not in direct control of your Pokemon's movement makes the whole ordeal rather frustrating.
As an example I just thought zygarde and there's one of his moves where he tries to attack you (you), not your Pokemon but you, directly with a volley of targeted earthquakes. You as the player can dodge them easily but your Pokemon will follow behind you, often too slow, and we'll eat every single one of the hits. The best way I found to avoid this was to have them set up an attack so that they are stationary and stuck in the cast animation
Another example is that I use exadrill with drill rush and mega horn, which are moves that have him dash through the opponent. Well the way that it's programmed, he only wants to use attacks when he's standing next to me, so he will dash through the opponent, and then walk all the way back to stand next to me before using another attack; unless I run around charging after him like an idiot for a quicker follow-up
This feels like it's so close to an interesting system but for whatever reason they just didn't give us control of the Pokemon directly. Maybe that would have been too frustrating seeing as how there's a good number of attacks that basically will always hit and then any sort of movement mechanics really wouldn't make as much sense. As it is, I think it's clunky at best and frustrating at worst
