>>58534286I do think we overrate it a bit, but then I remember how bad gen 4 was and what it kinda fixed since gen 2 and I start rating it again. That and it was pushing the DS to it's absolute limit. Gen 5 looked stunning on the DS. Absolutely stunning.
Turns out, things would never improve from then onwards and it's basically looked the same or similar since, just a change in some camerawork really and more 3D. Although, SS now does seem like an achievement in retrospect. More than SV.
It's just that it's now up against things with monsters like Monster Hunter when it decided to go full 3D. If pokemon looked like monster hunter, but you could catch them - it would be the greatest shit of all time probably. Then you can make the battles more like actual action games with mechanics and use the 4 joypad buttons as your move set for each pokemon as you are playing. Make the player directly control the pokemon instead of the player character. You could make pokemon dark souls proper if you did that.
That's just never going to happen. Not even monster hunter's devs could pull that off I think. You'd have to have completely unique hitboxes and animations for each move in the game that felt more like a sword or magic in an adventure game.
