People who believed in the Grinch Leak were idiots who ignored Sakurai's warnings about not expecting too many new challengers and that they were going to slow down the pace of reveals. To think they were going to reveal 7 characters in one direct was ridiculous. The only reason that "leak" lasted as long as it did is because it just so happened to have all of the community favorites on it, and so logic and reasoning was thrown out the window because people wanted it to be real

People only really like things when they're presented well. Pokemon games don't particularly do a good job at shilling their mons, that's usually why the anime had to do a fuckton of the heavy lifting for a lot of Pokemon and characters. Jigglypuff still only remains relevant in this day and age because of the anime

Just look at these renders alone and tell me which is going to incite actual interest

Geno was cool, and Mario RPG was based. The game was easier than any mainline Pokémon game, so more than enough people knew who Geno was. He would have worked in SSBU, especially with all the new mechanics they added. Imagine Geno Whirl working like a projector version of Ridley's down special. It absolutely could have worked, but I couldn't hang with everyone that was ignoring Mallow at the same time.

The Mario RPG remake was more than enough consolation for me though.

and desu I was more keen on the idea of them being assist trophies.
