I already started making a monster catcher game. I finished setting up the system for different species, as well as random stats, nature, etc for individual monsters. Also finished basic storage system with filtering by type, as well as a search where you can type nickname, species name, or custom tags you can place on monsters. UI is of course placeholder shit. Now I just need to make combat and then start adding content

It doesn't have a name yet but I'm calling it Century Isles as a project name because that's the location the game takes place in. It will be slightly more realistic and dark and I will try to make it more like a traditional RPG rather than just a straight up Pokémon clone. The region of the world that my game will take place in is inspired by Scandinavia.

That's why they made Doug Bowser stand down.
They had an unspoken deterrent protecting the IP before. No one even thought stepping on GF's toes was a viable business practice before, there was an invisible threat of legal action keeping things in status quo.
Now we are seeing what it actually happens if you wake the tiger. And it makes the tiger look weak and impotent.
This is very similar to Lego losing their case with Minifigures a decade or ago, resulting in a bunch of companies suddenly making ripoff Lego mini figures at once, without fear of legal retaliation.

Good bait, pokefags will bite for sure and shit their pants, but thats not how it works. It just means that other monster tamers can have more varied mechanics. You aren't going to see indie game with a Pikachu in it.
That is of course if they WILL win it. I want them to, but who knows what kind of butthurt patent trolling Nintendo will pull off at the last minute to save face.
