Trying to play sword and shield (have played no switch era pokemon games) and it's brutally boring. There is absolutely no illusion of challenge. Should I skip or does it get better at some point?

The fun parts are the DLC, specifically shiny hunting legendaries in Dynamax Adventures. The game itself is very easy. Even the battle tower is probably its easiest incarnation.

Za was developed as a switch 1 game, and sv was developed as a switch 2 game until the console got delayed and then it got retroactively turned into a switch 1 game so they could still shit it out in time for the release window.
So by sheer virtue of "did what it was meant to do", za wins. Sv has more shit to do, but runs and looks like ass. If you have a switch 2, it transitions to just looking like ass.
