It was probably the worst aside from Leon's quick shitstomps against Alain and Diantha, but I was personally most disappointed by Ash vs Cynthia because despite it being the best-written battle in the tournament by far, the animation was hilariously atrocious.

It's an annoying move but it's not a deus ex machina, and it made things more interesting as opposed to the other battles where Pikachu was expected to be the last one standing. It was also consistent with Cynthia trying to catch Ash off guard throughout the whole battle and often succeeding. Contrast Leon where they just trade KOs with almost no strategy.

I think it would only be considered one if it was a brand new move that has never been used before in the series. Destiny Bond has been present in the series since gen 2. Its been used one other time in the anime. I dont consider it but I guess I can see why you would think that.

I see it as writers wanted to make the battles more interesting and strategic than simply trading blows.

Are you retarded? That's because it loses speed and item, speed in turn based format is way more important (see Z-A, Mega Garchomp is a beast there, instead of a disappointment) and items are rarely if ever used in the anime.
And dynamax is the most stupidly OP gimmick so far so dynamaxing is actually preferable, plus it was cheap fanservice to make Cynthia the only trainet other than the protagonist to have access to more than one gimmick, Cynthia got all the advantages she could. And still lost

Honestly, it's even good and better that Mega Garchomp remained unblemished. The battle will forever have an asterisk because of that. And that's on top of Cynthia not using her second gimmick while Ash could Lucario-Genkidama and Garchomp's moveset oh so conveniently not having a single ground or fire move and being all dragon.

The problem is that the anime paraded Cynthia a as 9999IQ strategy master. You don't do that and then have the same character have her ace have a monotype moveset. It makes anyone with two neurons to rub raise an eyebrow when you see the supposed super smart strategymaster also do a fuckton of boneheaded moves.
We all know Cynthia would lose even if she had made all the perfect moves. Problem is that the writing was so fucking shit it took you out of the fight and broke you out of your suspension of disbelief.
