How do you think the resurgence of Megas will go?

Megas should’ve been the permanent gimmick and every family should’ve gotten a mega, with newer mons having more experimental megas so other held items would still be encouraged.

It'll be a staple of the franchise going forward like regional variants are except new mega evolutions won't be introduced nearly as frequently. Honestly I don't expect any new ones being introduced in Gen 10 unless they decide to make Mega Serperior, Mega Samurott, and a few others for Black and White remakes.

Assuming that Project Seed is a Gen 10 game actually becomes a reality we'll probably at the very least see mega evolution return since Hoenn is practically synonymous with it

i never liked megas as a gimmick beyond us getting new pokemon. I really wish they were just put in as permanent rare forms that replaced the normal evolution. With adjusted stats, of course

Project Sneed lines up perfectly with the gimmicks
Kanto/Johto -> Z-moves, lines up with Alola since there was a big connection between the Kanto/Johto and Alola w/ VC and Alolan forms
Hoenn -> Megas for obvious reasons
Sinnoh -> Dymamax which is the biggest stretch but they could make something up involving Coronet

As the original battle gimmick and easily the most popular one among Joe Normal, they'll keep popping up in spin-offs with occasional appearances in main games, maybe once or twice a console. It's not going to be a staple going forward and we probably won't see them in a main-ish title outside Champions until the end of the Switch 2's lifespan. Maybe in Project Seed, there could be an entire expansion or at least filler update based around it especially since Megas are backloaded to Gen 1-4 Pokemon since they were the majority when Gen 6 came out and ZA only did so much to add Gen 5+ Pokemon to the pool.

Yes but canonically they haven't explained how Let's Go fits in, given Red exists in our timeline so thats up in the air. And Johto and Sinnoh don't have them

They don't need to and you said yourself why? Red exists in the prime timeline, thus a game featuring Kanto and the events of RG, but not featuring Red as protag but as an "older trainer, who'd already started his journey" is AU by default.

Megas returning isn't just fanservice. Now that the number of species is over 1000, creating new ones that don't overlap with the existing roster and manage to be popular enough to justify going through the trouble of coming up with is only getting harder. Regional forms, "ecologically similar Pokemon", Paradox Pokemon, Mega Evolution, each its own flavor of repurposing and recontextualizing old designs.

The lore is going out of its way to reiterate Megas are directly tied to the AZ storyline, which I doubt they will keep bringing up specially now that he's fucking dead.
