There's plenty of opportunities to go off the beaten path and find something fun to do, but the region being laid out in such a linear fashion just takes a lot of the fun out of it. Also not a huge fan of the "151 pokemon" gimmick or the fact they implemented a strict 3-pokemon rule for all the gym leaders.
I do really like the unconventional aesthetic GF took with the graphics, though, and it's cool they tackled the "are Pokemon slaves" question. But it just feels a bit more phoned in than previous games.
Platinum is the best Pokemon game and there is no debate.
