Eh, probably. It will be a spin off of some kind probably made by a third party studio. The og sprites have enough nostalgia for that. especially the top down trainer sprites and that iconic shrinking animation.
Actually might be a gimmick in a future pokemon game, if they keep pressing this multiple dimension thing. they might try mixing gameplay styles.
Just as a 2D pokemon game? I think there will be a follow up to let's go for the Switch 2.
As long as pokemon go keeps some popularity I think there is a motivation to keep it compatible.
