>>58593336I bought tons of sealed to open for 151 when it came out.
Managed to open the entire set.
I bought some singles for promos I was unable to obtain such as the EB Games stamped Charmander which was exclusive to NZ & AUS.
Nowadays, if there's a random 151 variant in a product, if the single promo is cheaper then the product at msrp, I buy the promos as singles.
These modern sets, I only buy sealed now, If i happen to come across it, and its msrp, what I do, is keep it, and then use it as trade leverage for stuff that I want at conventions and shows.
I havent really been drawn into the appeal of any of the new sets since 151.
There's like the odd chase cards that look alright but thats about it. I dont know why there are so many scalpers and flippers when the product is so terrible. Really feels like theyre hyping up trash-mid sets and cards. Looks like theres a lot of ppl left holding the bag at this point.
A lot of people got on the train late, the costco 151 tins ignited this current flipper market. They tried applying it to surging sparks, and some people bought into it. Blooming Waters kept it going, now the sams club tins are pumping it again.
I think this market is completely fake, its all derivative of the 151 instant flip markup. And people just got it lost in the sauce and applied it to everything.
I think people are realizing it slowly that they dont actually care about scrimblo rimblos and bags of trash as pokemon.
It genuinely boils down to the original 151 then by some extent there gen 2 evolutions. As demonstrated by umbreon tax.
If the 30th anniversary does another 151 set. Everyone will say "its jUsT nostalgia" and everyone will hate on it and shit on it. And a few wise men will snatch it up. And then 2 years later when its seemingly gone, everyone will want it again.
