Kanto, Johto, and Unova are the three regions where I've been to their real world counterparts, and of the three, Johto definitely runs with its real-world inspiration the most. I suppose I can't speak so much on the other regions
>>58585204Johto is fun to explore though, Union Cave, Ruins of Alph and Mt. Mortar in particular are a testament to that with their hidden areas. Not even getting into finding all the time-based events like the gym leader rematches, the shiny leaves, seeing all the walking pokemon text and whatnot
I'm still finding new things in HGSS to this day, and I've played through them tens of times.
