I hate gen 8 starters and their forms. Hisuian starters all have nice, thematically fitting designs, overall great. Paldea starters are alright. A welcome addition after gen 8 failure. ZA, megas are meh. Only meganium is "good" emboar is good enough for emboar.

Winners of the generation. Beautiful crafted megas and demonstrates that their base designs was alright. Probably one of my favorite starter trios now

Intelleon is simply a boring design competitively. Fast water type special attacker is all it has. That'd probably be cool in gen 4 and 5, but compared to changing your type after different moves and swapping hazards or set up a field condition that allies can make use of too and gives you strong priority, it's nothing. It'd need to be designed from the ground up. Lots of damage if it uses focus energy isn't nearly as interesting of an idea.

To add, I don't mind it being lower tiered. I think Hisuian Decidueye is a vastly better starter design than it, despite it being PU instead of PUBL. Fighting move that is powerful with 0 draw backs? That's already fairly cool and rare. Scrappy to prevent Intimidate and Ghost type switch ins? Very unique. A whole bunch of bullshit added effects? Wonderful. It's in currently in a meta where Virizion (a pokemon with the same typing) and Alolan Decidueye (a pokemon that takes up the same species slot) are pretty well used as well as a plethora of other Fighting and Grass types being higher tier. Hisuian Decidueye is over kill with it's move and ability while being low tier, but in places where it is viable, it cannot be said to be uninteresting. Hisuian Decidueye is a shitmon starter done right. Intelleon is an utter failure. I say this as someone who loves Unovan Samurott, so I know the pain.

Kalos Starters were always good, and the Megas are a well deserved upgrade.
Hisui Starters have a great aesthetic to match the world of the game. But after the teraleaks I can't look at this Typhlosion the same way again...Ruined forever.
Galar Starters are ok as sports mascots I guess.
Paldea might be bottom of the barrel. They just don't stand out now with every starter Pokemon getting some special power up nowadays. And Quaxly was so unpopular, kids just pick up a Gyarados instead. Absolutely dire.
