I guess they did technically did reference Stegosaurus via Slither Wing, which has a few species found in Portugal, but like come on dude, there's a Portuguese dinosaur called Dinheirosaurus, "dinheiro" meaning money in Portuguese, it's literally called "money lizard", you're telling me Gamefreak couldn't have used this for Gholdengo's concept? Imagine a golden sauropod with a money motif, wouldn't that be a thousand times more interesting than the pile of dogshit that is Gholdengo?
There's a Spanish dinosaur named Pyroraptor too, you're telling me they couldn't have made a really cool Fire/Rock raptor? Like come the fuck on, that would have been a slam dunk design.
Ranting about the wasted opportunities in gen 9 aside, gen 8 was also kinda shit, the concept of chimeric fucked up fossils is interesting, but holy fuck they ruined the Dunkleosteus, Dracovish and Arctovish are morbid and disgusting abominations, at least Arctozolt and Dracozolt look like they can function despite being mismatched monsters, I get gen 7 technically wouldn't make much sense for fossils either, but there's plenty of ancient marine creatures that could still work with them being found on the ocean's floor or something, like a Mosasaurus or an Ichtyosaur.
