It should've been Serperior and Empoleon, both were legitimately modeled after French designs and concepts for their respective generations. Game Freak outright fucking ignoring them in Z-A is proof they didn't give a shit about Lumiose's setting in the slightest and just didn't want to a Kalos-related project seriously at all

As for the Fire Starter I don't know because the best two options already have Megas. You were going to end up double upping on either Infernape or Emboar regardless unless you pivoted to Incineroar because Cinderace is still too new to be shilled in another region. Yeah sure, futball and Galar is Kalos' twin but having TWO Switch games with Cinderace as a starter would've been obnoxious as fuck

"Good" in sense that they lend themselves to unique design concepts that would make sense for the gimmick.
Feraligatr is ugly but it's the only pokemon that really lends itself to the unique double jaw concept.

I think Chikorita is fine desu. They would've had to double up on a region starter anyways like you said unless they want to do scorbunny again this soon.

Chikorita, Tepig, Piplup would be fine without doubling up on any region
