The games would've been better if they did this instead of full 3d.
Full 3d with no gameplay or system changes aged the games like milk.

That cannot possibly be true.
The ground alone tile used in >>58616547 requires over 200 face textures per square depending on alignment.

VS just painting a ground texture and creating visual noise with low poly grass and shit.

Not ever, because 2D doesn't sell to kids anymore unless it's flash-tier mobile slop, and Pokemon is always going to prioritize selling products to children first and foremost, even if it does dabble in nostalgiabaiting its older fans.
