Incredible how they realized they should stop fucking around with this shit around gen 3 and started simply transliterating them straight instead of making up shit... before quickly proceeding to get inconsistent with it again a few gens later.

Badge boost should be brought back and enhanced so instead of it being 9/8, it's 4/3, but with an option to turn it off. They could then balance the game around the badge boost and there would now be a single way to turn on hard mode instead of having to jump through dozens of convoluted rules all of which have to be self imposed and monitored.
