It didn't sell well enough in the eyes of TPC, who have long since been poisoned by the sheer profitability of mobile games compared to how expensive it's getting to develop for Nintendo platforms since they're no longer on a weaker, cheaper handheld device.

Was DX still Chunsoft? They've been keeping busy with their own franchises as of late if memory serves. If you just want the gameplay of the series they did put out a new Shiren recently if you want to check that out

Ah, that's fair, mainly recommending Shiren if you're into Mystery Dungeon for the dungeon spelunking aspect specifically, fair enough if Pokemon are a core part for ya.

Shiren doing better than it's predecessors is why there hasn't been another pmd. They're happy to be doing their own thing, I think.

I tried DX on a whim, and I was kind of shocked at how much I enjoyed it.
It's sort of an ideal remake, in that you can play and enjoy the original and this for different reasons.

its really nice. you can feel the love and care they gave it, most notably in the visuals, but theres a ton of small details throughout that Id think "oh, they really didnt have to do that, but they did. dope."
It does also feel like they added a lot of modern Pokemon easyness though, unique traits and randomly using moves twice at no pp cost and the abomination that is the empowerment seed really didnt need to be added.

i hated that the partner pokemon walks away from you to fight any enemy that is on the screen so i only played it for maybe a less than an hour
also they got rid of the free attack which made zero sense when they clearly also expected you to fight every single randomly spawned enemy

If I wanted to play a Mystery Dungeon game, there are significantly better options than Pokemon.
I like PMD for its setting, which no other Mystery Dungeon game has. But as far as gameplay goes, I'd prefer a more active type of gameplay like the Pokepark games.
