Blaziken is based off an IRL type of chicken used for cockfights, but you don't need to understand that to like it, it's just a cool chicken that kicks shit to death.
Some time in the last 4-ish gens, TPC decided to start being more direct with references to other stuff more often than they used to, and it's gotten worse in the last gen, especially with starters and PLZA Megas.
Unless you know the reference, you wonder why the fuck Mega Starmie runs around like a caffeinated toddler holding a stolen cookie, or why the fuck M-Feraligatr's using its arms as a lower jaw. People are still trying to figure out what the hell is up with M-Skarmory, and the best people have is "construction crane" because it's clearly a reference to something but nobody can pinpoint exactly what it is. The second someone figures out what specific thing it's based on, POW, people will suddenly say they've always loved it.
