>>58657172To be fair, even the blobbiest of alien baby Digimon talk and have "human" personalities in varying degrees. Talking "humanizes" things almost immediately.
Plus a lot of Digimon evolve into straight-up people, and it'd be weird to have your "cat" that was just an 8' tall busty angel woman an hour ago eat off the floor.
>>58652892Agreed, to an extent. I think a lot of people forget the jobmon (starter) thing started as early as gens 4 and 5, Infernape being heavily based on Sun Wukong, and literally all three gen 5 starters being based off specific people IRL (which again makes PLZA weird as fuck to have two "ambiguous monsters" and a "real person" as your options.)
That said, I've always hated when Pokemon, especially starters, have a built-in "character", a "personality" to them since a large part of picking your starter is that they're a blank slate for you/kids to "fill out", only for your cute seal Pokemon to 100% become a "female" songstress in a plunge dress, or you get a soccer player that's literally JUST a soccer player and nothing else.
Hell, one of the most infuriating examples of this is the Fuecoco line, there's absolutely NO reason for TPC to make it a singer, but TPC hamfisted the bird thing solely to give Skeledirge a mic to sing into, just to give it a "job", when it would've been fine without one.
All this stuff takes away from the ability for a player to pick their starter and just headcanon whatever they want with it, having it be their partner.
Best example of all this is when my nephew learned what Popplio evolves into, as Brionne is 100% girly despite whatever he thought his blue seal nigga would've become, and he got grossed out in an "eewwww cootiesss!!!" way when I showed him Primarina, and Popplio stopped being his favorite.

>a specific recurring Pikachu, one of THE main characters of the anime, is equal to starters with built-in "characters" against the player's will in the gamesWeird bait. I don't get it.
